Biking in Montreal Part 1: Getting Your Bike

Good day everyone! As most of you may have noticed, the amount of bikes in the city has increased drastically over the last few days. It has now been 4 years that we’ve been studying in Montreal and we’ve never seen so many bikes. It’s kind of insane if you ask us.

It’s finally hot outside!

With all of these new rules and regulations for social distancing you might be thinking: “maybe it’s time I get myself a decent bike to do my errands…?”

For those of you who don’t really know, we live to bike. Just to give you an idea, it’s all year round for us. Just to give you an idea, in the garage we have a Cube Reaction SL 27.5 (for the whole year) and a State Bicycle Fixed Gear Custom (for the summer).

Since we’re here to give you the latest life hacks for the best Montreal life, we thought giving you a couple addresses would make your life easier.

E2-Sport: Montreal’s eBike experts

In October 2018, after a long year of doing food deliveries on a 2012 Specialized Hardrock 29er, we decided it was time for an upgrade. After great deliberation, we thought an ebike was the way to go. Yes, an ebike. For those of you who know us a little, you know that we believe in one thing: “an ebike is not a real bike.” Yet, we bought one haha; joke’s on us!

Enough blabbering, where is E2-Sport? They’re located in the heart of Downtown Montreal, a 15 minute walk from Concordia, isn’t that great?! Right at the bottom of Guy on Notre-Dame: 1950 Notre-Dame Street West.

E2-Sport helped us out with choosing the best suited ebike for our needs. At first, it was kind of scary… When you see the price on these bikes you want to faint, BUT don’t worry. They offer financing, which is what we did. 24 months of paying 150$/month and some months more. Hard work pays off! Yes, we know that this method is not for everybody, but they do have low entry models that are definitely more affordable.*

Ok, here’s the beast:

Giant Montreal

Next on the list, we have the one store that is literally across the street and that has ALWAYS been there for us when needed. At any time of the day, whether it be for some parts or if we screwed up while tuning something like a break lever, they were and still are ALWAYS here! It’s about time we give them a shout out for their great customer service.

You know that old 2012 Specialized Hardrock 29er that we mentioned earlier, well guess who helped us take care of it during the hard winter of deliveries? Giant Montreal! Even though it wasn’t a Giant Bicycle and it was basically (in the end) a rolling disaster, they were here to help with our most ridiculous requests haha. The team is always a pleasure to laugh with and every time we come in with a crazy question, it always becomes a joke.

So where are they located? Right here on Sherbrooke: 5252 Sherbrooke Street West.

They offer a variety of “regular bikes” but also have ebikes! We definitely recommend that you drop by, especially if your budget is under $1000 for an everyday bike. They have some great offers and they offer financing as well! Check out their website to see their various price range and the different bike models they have.

Time to ride!

We are working on “the perfect bike tour” of Montreal for a date, a picnic, or just for the pleasure of riding. Stay tuned, it will soon be out! Let us know what bike you got in the end. Stay safe out there!

*Full disclosure, we were only able to this with a stable and well paying part-time job and we completely understand that it’s not in everyone’s budget, but when you love biking and you use it as your main mode of transportation, you sacrifice in other areas. Any avid biker will understand haha.
