Jean Coutu and Pharmaprix ?

As a new person in this big and dynamic city, it’s crucial to know about places where you can go at any hour of the day to get any kind of supply you can think of. That’s right, there are two different drugstore/pharmacy companies in competition in Montreal: Jean Coutu and Pharmaprix. Both have stores available all around the city; you’re never more than a mile away from either. Many times, we found ourselves entering the nearest Jean Coutu late at night for any kind of purchase or need.

What is really reassuring is the thought of knowing that these shops are everywhere and sell a very large range of objects, varying from food to household items to healthcare supplies. You need a new phone charger? They have it. You need batteries? Betcha. What about light bulbs ? Yes. Even school supplies are just a few aisles away from all the snacks and candy they offer. So basically, any basic item you would need will be there.

The advantages…

Now, imagine this: open ALL the time, nothing can stop you from heading to a Pharmaprix at 3 in the morning to get study-snacks, (which we do maybe a bit too much). The availability of their service impressively efficient, considering that most businesses close between 6 and 8 PM during the week.

The last and most important aspect of having these shops around is their customer service and the pharmacy. When the harsh cold of winter starts weakening you, going to one of their facilities to discuss the symptoms with a pharmacist is a good idea before seeing a doctor. Their pharmacists always gave me great recommendations on different health problems, and they can advise you on pretty much all minor issues.

What we think ?

For those of you who know the United States, this kind of service is always reassuring and satisfying. The prices are average, and we decided to stick to one store because both offer really good reward points systems (that’s awesome by the way). Good luck in your discovery of the city, and remember that basic help is everywhere !
