Biking in Montreal Part 2: Where to Go?

We are now well into summer. Did you try out your new bike? Have you bought your new bike? If you haven’t, here’s Part 1 of this series: getting your bike.

Part 2 of this series is pretty self explanatory: where to go with your new bike? This article is for the more adventurous type of biker. Have you really taken the time to truly explore your new city?

Atwater Market / Griffintown / Old Montreal / Old Port

For Concordia University students, if you live near school, all you have to do is take Atwater Avenue all the way down to the Atwater Market (beautiful market by the way). From there you can actually start exploring. So what we like doing is starting from around there and going all the way to Old Montreal / Old Port along the Canal Lachine. The cycling path is lovely for an easy cruise. However, beware of Saturdays and Sundays! It transforms into a highway with hundreds of people, especially now that biking is one of the few outdoor activities that we can do.

Half way there you have this amazing park called “Place des Bassins” which is right on the water where you can rest for a while or even have a picnic. To give you a better idea, here it is:

When you’re done resting, you can slowly bike towards the Old Montreal and eat a bit more there. Maybe a crêpe at La Crêperie St-Paul?

For us, this is a very easy route, that is easily doable during the week. Now, on weekends it’s a whole different story.

Welcome to Lachine!

Since our arrival in Montreal we’ve been wanting to go all the way to “René Lévesque Park“. Turns out it’s not an everyday type of commute. It’s actually far… When you go there, it’s for the day. It’s all the way down in Lachine.

Here’s the location of the park for better orientation:

Even though it might be far, it so worth it! Unfortunately we chose the only day that was cloudy, but it’s simply beautiful down there! We found a sort of little porch with benches by the Saint-Laurence river and it was very “sympathique”.

If you want to go, we recommend that you go on a nice day and be there for the sunset.

There is one last destination we want to share with you today. It’s one that everybody knows! We also mentioned it multiple times in previous posts and it is probably our favourite spot in the city.

Mont-Royal

Since we bought the Cube, we started exploring inside the woods of the park. It’s HUGE! There are so many trails to go on. Up, down, on rocks, on stairs. There is so much to see and so much to do. If you bought yourself a mountain bike, it’s definitely the place to go. In Part 1 of this series: getting your bike, we added a picture in the woods, but here’s one more!

That’s it for this part of the adventure! Stay tuned for the third part, it’s going to be how to clean your bike properly with local products.
